Vaccine supply situation and outlook for vaccinations

In July, the supply of Pfizer vaccine from the national government was reduced, and there were only a small number of vaccines provided at medical facilities in the city. However, based on the national policy to provide vaccines to 80% of the population aged 12 and over, the vaccine supply in the city has stabilized since mid-August.

By maintaining the current vaccination system, we expect that everyone in the city who wishes to get vaccinated will be able to do so by the end of November.

If you would like to get vaccinated, please use a national or municipal mass vaccination facility, or check the availability of appointments at the medical facilities providing vaccinations, and make an appointment.

Infection prevention measures are necessary even after you have been vaccinated!

Getting vaccinated for Covid-19 is said to prevent the development of severe symptoms by a significant rate, and it has been confirmed that it is effective in preventing the spread of the disease and development of symptoms.

However, this doesn't mean that you can't spread the disease to other people after you have been vaccinated. Even in Japan, there have even been reports of people being infected after getting 2 doses of the vaccine. Even those who have been fully vaccinated need to continue following infection prevention measures.

Be prepared to recover at home, just in case

The Kashiwa City Public Health Center provides various means of support for people infected with Covid-19 who are treating the disease at home. Be prepared in advance in case you need to undergo treatment at home.

The beginning of unforeseen medical treatment at home

Most people who have been infected with Covid-19 and have mild or no symptoms are currently recuperating at home. Be aware of the important points ahead of time, so you can be prepared in case you suddenly have to begin medical treatment at home.

▲What to do if you have been infected with Covid-19

Things you need to prepare

You will not be able to leave your home while you are recovering from Covid-19. As a rule, those who have been in contact with people infected with Covid-19 also need to remain at home. In preparation for the sudden event of having to recover or self-isolate at home, be ready with the following 3 points.

①Make sure you can obtain a supply of food that can be stored, and household medicine.

②Make sure you are able to contact family or friends so that you are not cut off from social connections while at home.

③If you have a chronic illness and need to continue taking medicine, check with your doctor regarding your prescription.

Q&A What will happen if I have to recover at home?

Many people have contacted the Public Health Center with questions regarding recovery at home. We will address some concerns that may arise in the event that you are infected with Covid-19, or you have been in close contact with someone who has been infected.

(An example with an infected person and their family)

A member of a 4-person household with a wife, a son in elementary school and a daughter in nursery school.

Symptoms started for this family member on October 1, and a Covid-19 diagnosis was made.

Q1

I am worried about how I will get food when I need to stay at home for my recovery.

A

The Public Health Center is operating a supplies delivery service for people who test positive for Covid-19. This service provides delivery of a one-week supply of food and daily necessities.

Q2

I am worried about my symptoms getting worse while I am recovering at home.

A

During your recovery at home, you will be contacted every day by phone or app (LINE) to monitor your health. If the Public Health Center determines that it is necessary, we will lend you a pulse oximeter, which measures the oxygen saturation of the blood. By monitoring your respiratory condition using observations such as the changes in these levels, the health monitoring support can detect worsening symptoms at an early stage.

Q3

Are my family members who live in my household close contacts for exposure to Covid-19?

A

If someone has been living in the same house as the infected person, if you shared a meal with them without wearing a mask, or if you were otherwise in contact with them for a long period of time (including riding in the same car, etc.) during the period of possible infection (from two days prior to the onset of symptoms), they qualify as a close contact.

Q4

My wife and two children are close contacts. How long should they refrain from going out of the house? Also, when can my children return to school and nursery school?

A

The period that they must stay home starts from the day they learn that they are a close contact. The period continues from the last day that the infected person may infect others around him (the infection period), and for an additional 14 days (virus incubation period).

In this case, the date that close contacts were identified was October 1. If the last day of the infection period is October 11, close contacts will have to refrain from going out of the house until October 25. The children will be able to return to school and nursery school on October 26.

Q5

When can I go back to work?

A

The recovery period is assumed to continue until 10 days have passed since the date of onset of symptoms, and then another 72 hours after the symptoms have receded. However, this length of time may be extended based on the symptoms. During the recovery period, work restrictions will apply. Not including remote work, you will be asked to take time off from work.

Q6

When the recovery period is over, will I (the infected person) have to take another test for Covid-19?

A

When the patient recovering from Covid-19 has reached the end of their recovery period, there is no longer a risk of infecting others, so you will not need to be tested again.
