With the approach of Typhoon 19, the Japan Meteorological Agency and Kashiwa City published several warnings and advisories. How did everyone obtain the necessary information, and what actions did you take? To prepare ourselves for a disaster, let’s be more aware of how to obtain information, what evacuation procedures to use, and what we need to do when we are in a situation where we have to make decisions.

In the event of a disaster, use these sources for the necessary information

In Kashiwa City, information regarding disaster situations can be obtained from the Kashiwa City Website, and several other sources including the Kashiwa E-mail Distribution Service and Twitter. In the event of a disaster, make sure that you are ready to receive the information you require.

Kashiwa City Website

Disaster information including available evacuation centers and any power outages, will be published at the top of the Kashiwa City Website, under the heading “Important Information”.

Kashiwa E-mail Distribution Service

Information on a variety of topics is provided by email through a distribution service. By choosing the category “Disaster Information” when you register, the most up-to-date information will be sent to you during a disaster situation.

You can check disaster information from the city through the “Yahoo! Disaster Prevention Bulletin” smartphone app. Download the app ahead of time, and learn how to use it.

Kashiwa City Disaster Prevention and Hazard Map – web version

The web version of the Kashiwa City Disaster Prevention and Hazard Map has been made available. Using the map, you can see what the probable situation would be in different areas of the city during a disaster, including flood, landslide or earthquake.

Twitter

Extreme weather alerts, such as in the event of a typhoon or tornado, are published on Twitter.

Test broadcast of the Emergency Broadcast System

A test broadcast of the emergency broadcast system will be done on Wednesday, December 4, at 11:00am. The broadcast will be done simultaneously from all 190 broadcast locations around the city.

Chime ➡ “This is a test of J-alert” (3 times) ➡ “This is Disaster Prevention Kashiwa” ➡ Chime

▶May be cancelled in the event of a disaster or poor weather conditions.

▶The broadcast may be done at the same time in neighboring cities.

Complete the application form, and mail it using an envelope provided at any of the locations where applications are available.

Deadline

Send applications postmarked by Monday, December 16.

One application per household.

If there are more applicants than spaces available, tenancy will be decided by draw.
